In Year 5 children focus on Communication Skills throughout the year. They discuss what different types of communication there are and when it’s appropriate to use each type. They discuss what good communication looks like in each case. Within the Curriculum there are lots of opportunities for them to practice a range of communication skills both inside and outside the classroom. They will continue to build on their teamwork and problem solving skills from lower school.
Children are expected to read regularly at home for pleasure. The Y5 library slots for changing books are Falcons on a Wednesday, Hawks on a Tuesday and Kites on a Thursday. For information on reading records and other home learning click here.
Home learning goes home with the children on a Friday.
Falcons: Tuesday and Friday
Hawks: Monday and Friday
Kites: Tuesday and Friday
We ask that children have suitable clothing for PE and Games. The children need a tracksuit when the weather turns colder.
At Western we have an ‘Open Door’ policy. If you would like to see a teacher please pop in at the end of the day. We politely request the end of the day as teachers are responsible for their children in the morning however, if it is urgent we will endeavor to cover the teacher. Feel free to make an appointment at the office.
In case you couldn't make it to our Year 5 Meet and Greet in the autumn term, our PowerPoint slides are below.
