Early Years at Western
We value the Reception Year as a stage of learning in its own right, as a transition between home and school, which builds upon the previous experiences of the child and prepares them for future learning too.
We know that this is your child’s first experience of ‘school’ and we want them to feel secure, excited and keen to come to school each day.
We want to build upon and develop their skills enabling them to become successful learners and confident individuals who will grow as responsible citizens.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is designed to be very ‘hands on’ and practical. It is characterised by a play-based, active approach to learning. It is designed to be experiential and fun, appealing to each child’s desire to communicate, to find things out, to build and create, to play and imagine. We build on previous learning and help develop the children’s social skills.
We aim to establish a smooth and happy transition into school life and to build foundations for future learning.
The children have the opportunity to actively explore their surroundings through self initiated activities, carefully planned structured activities and stimulating learning experiences.
The Reception team includes 2 highly-qualified and experienced teachers who work closely with 3 fully-trained Early Years Assistants.
We aim to establish a smooth and happy transition into school life and to build foundations for future learning.
